Ljubljana castle/Ljubljanski grad
Best view of Ljubljana

Ljubljana castle (Slovenian Ljubljanski grad) is a medieval castle above Ljubljana, located on the castle hill (Slovenian Grajski grič, pron. "Graiskee greech"). Archeological research has shown, that the castle hill above Ljubljana was continuously inhabited for over 3000 years. The castle was first time documented in 1144. In 16th and 17th century the castle was enlarged and new parts were added. In 1905 the municipality of Ljubljana bought the castle and it owns it ever since. In the 1990s the castle experienced a revival in popularity. After long and extensive renovation works (for 35 years), it was opened to public and became a popular spot for locals and tourists.

When you want to go to Ljubljana castle, you have 3 choices. One is by car, one is by foot and one by a recently built funicular, which is probably the most convenient for you. You have to go to Krekov trg, which is near the St. Nicholas cathedral and the day market (tržnica). We paid 3eur per person for two ways. My girlfriend made a video of the ride and if you're lucky, you even may spot me in the clip ;-)
Enjoy some of my photos of the Ljubljana castle:

Unless you go to a café on top or to some exhibitions in the castle, you won't be on top over 30min. The castle is small, but lovely. There are no masses of people, so it's possible to take some decent photos. If you come to Ljubljana, you definitely need to visit the castle.

I love the photos. Man, I've always dreamed of going to castles and just the whole idea sounds romantic. I'm so jealous, I'll never get to go to some place like that. Boohoo...I love the pictures Nino.

I never actually ventured into the castle when I was there and definitely regret it now.
Man, your posts make me miss Europe more and more... You should visit Ireland, there are so many beautiful castles there although they are not necessarily in as good condition as they are here.

Any fire-breathing dragons inside the castle?
Hah, I like your "Boyfriends are modern donkeys for girls" quote. Goes well with the picture, bro.
Hey, Lily likes purple too (color of her backpack)? That's Wifey's favourite colour.

The observation deck reminds me of the tower in a military base we have in S'pore! Would be cool to go up there...

@Lily Riani: The train was built few years ago, so it's new and cool :)
@Shingo: Only dragon there was from Taiwan. But luckily I have tamed that dragon, no fire was spit. But I had to be its donkey :P
