Spain beat Holland and won the World Cup 2010
The game was a bit disappointing, but there was drama

Spain beat the Netherlands 1:0 and won the 19th FIFA World Cup. Congratulations! The game was sometimes really hard to watch, because there were too many fouls and too many yellow cards. The game was ugly, it was a battle. Neither Holland, nor Spain played for the spectators, the fought to win. And after 90min we had no winner, it took Spain 116min to finally score, just few minutes before we expected penalty shootouts. It must've really been painful for the Dutch fans to see how they lost almost in last minute. What a pity. I really rooted for the Netherlands, but in the end, Spain was the better team and they deserved to win. They're dominating world football in the recent years, it's unbelievable how strong they are. Will they face their downfall in 2012? We'll see. I can't wait for the qualifications to start, I hope Slovenia will qualify.

You gotta see this clip! It's hilarious!!! :-)
I think everyone would like to be Wesley Snijder tonight. The girl below is his current girlfriend and I'm sure she'll console him tonight. Hey, it's not so bad to lose the World Cup finals after all, is it? :-P
THIS IS MY LAST WORLD CUP 2010 POST. It was really an entertaining month for me. I was lucky too see most of the games, if not all of them. Sometimes I stopped watching one, because it was pretty boring, but that was in the beginning, before the elimination phase, Chile - Honduras would be one of these games. But even though some games were not really good during the first 2 weeks, I really loved those days, where I could see 2 games a day and my home country Slovenia was part of all that. I'm always watching the World Cup (since 1990), but when you have your own country participating, it gives you extra thrills. I wish every football fan would have the chance to see his own country be part of the biggest sports event in the world, it's an unforgettable experience. Lucky those from Germany, Italy, France, Spain, Brazil and Argentina! Your teams are almost always qualifying. Nevertheless, I'm happy to be from Slovenia and proud of our young team, that was one of big surprises of the tournament.

ABOUT THE WORLD CUP: Congratulations to South Africa, the World Cup was organized perfectly. You have a great nation with a great future. I really hope we will see more World Cups in Africa in the future. Everything was top, only one thing could've been less dominant: the vuvuzela. I'm happy not to hear the beehive sound anymore, but my girlfriend just bought one (for fun) and I guess, if I misbehave, she'll punish me by blowing that thing in my ear :-P Ok, I admit, I wasn't really bothered by the vuvuzela so much in the elimination phase, that sound somehow became part of the game, it was like white noise. We'll see, how the vuvuzela story continues in the upcoming months.
Like every World Cup, this one also made some people (and pulpas) rise to fame. Diego Forlán became the best player of the tournament, Paul the Octopus Almighty predicted all the games right, the top 3 teams of the tournament were European. New stars emerged like the Uruguayan Diego Forlán, Thomas Müller and Mesut Ösil from Germany, David Villa from Spain, Wesley Snijder from Netherlands and many more. But there were also so called superstars who totally disappointed like Rooney and Messi. Big teams like Italy, France, Argentina and Brazil went home pretty early and surprised everybody, especially those who love to bet. Underdogs like Uruguay, Paraguay and Ghana came pretty far. And who would've predicted Holland in the finals? Well.. I did. :-P But I totally missed Spain, I thought Argentina will go all the way... I was so wrong. But that's football. The most exciting thing in the world (besides sex, hohoho). I'm looking forward to Brazil 2014, how about you?
- How did you like this World Cup?
- What were your best and worst moments?
- What or who surprised you the most?

13 KAFKAESQUE COMMENTS:
I think the most surprising things that happened in this World Cup for me was France and Italy being eliminated pretty quickly. That was unexpected, since they're supposed to be good. The outcome was also a complete shocker. I didn't expect Spain to make it that far, especially during their encounter with Germany. And (no offense to any Spanish fans possibly reading this) I was a little disappointed that Spain won. I was supporting the Netherlands even though I suspected that Paul was right as usual :/

Loved this post...Brazil going home early was the shocker. I thought they were a really strong team...but I suppose that's football (like any sport, for that matter), anything can happen, and it's all a a really exciting ride after all. :-)

Wow - good for Mister Iniesta to pay his respect to Paul the octopus ;) Paul is super smart!
I did watch the last half of the match. I agree it was painful at times. I personally thought there was some bias for Spain with the referee...but I guess that's how it can seem when you root for the other team ;)
Just like yourself I found the noise of the vuvzelas became less and less annoying over time as the intensity and excitement of the games increased. Haha - you'd better behave if your gf is using that as a whistle for you ;)
I'm not a huge football fan so I can't really compare it to four years ago. Hmmm....what surprised me the most? That Paul the Octopus exists and that he's always right! =) And that the men can be such wimps on the field - pulling the stupidest faces and pretending to be in tears when they're shoved or pushed. They couldn't survive a rugby match. THAT's a real sport!

tQ so much for the updates all through the World Cup. Very informative. Octopus Paul have "set" all the minds of players, punters, fans etc.. Saw a motivational article about an ancient General in China who would toss a coin in front of his army before going for war. If its "head" they will win the battle and they sure win in every battle. The coin has both sides "head"..the human mind is super powerful..tQ

Maybe you can write a post about how you feel when your ears hear the sound from my cute vuvuzela in a very close distance later. :-P I wonder, if Paul likes left side more than right side? Because I saw it always climbed on the left box while people wanted him to predict. I've heard a rumor that our people will build a temple for Paul , for people to worship and ask their fate or questions from Paul.
I think it's toooo ridiculous! Should totally be a rumor but not true. If so, would people all over the world come to Taiwan for Paul's temple? Maybe the temple will use another octopus and pretends it's Paul. :-P

i'm pleased that Spain won, being easily the best passing team in the world at the moment but i'm also sad that it's all over for another four years.
i'll also miss those vuvuzelas too and watching normal football will seem like something's missing without that drone!
maybe Slovenia will qualify for Euro 2012 before we get as far as Brazil 2014?

I won't talk about the game because I just stopped discussing with the only two Italians who say that Holland did play fair... and the game was disappointing indeed... but my question: how comes soccer players' girlfriends looks frightening the same??? This one is very similar to Casillas' girlfriend don't you think?

yay my prediction was right spain were the deserved winners by a stretch!

@Van: I was also rooting for Holland, but after I saw how rough they played, I knew it won't be a good day for them. Although Spain didn't play spectacularly, they played fair and consistently. The deserved the cup :)
@Sonia: Yes, Brazil was a surprise.
@Karen: Looks like the ref wasn't in charge of the game. He could've given few more yellow, even red cards. But then it may have been even harder to have order on the pitch. Ah, it is what it is now :)
@Bananaz: Hehe, Paul became a star of this tournament.
@LilyChen: I hope the EU will ban the vuvuzela from entering the border :P Then you can't blow it in my ear, keke. I think Paul would be worshiped by Taiwanese, hehe. We can steal it and make business :P
@adamantixx: I really hope Slovenia will qualify for Euro 2012, it won't be easy, we have Italy, Serbia and Northern Ireland in our group. It's funny that among all these teams, we played the best World Cup, but now they will take us very seriously and try to make us fall. We'll see.. hope we make it.
@Daisy: Holland didn't play fair and that's a pity. Too rough, too ugly. Well, you know calciatori love to date hot models, so they mostly look similar :)
@Amogh: Congrats ^_^
