Trip to amazing Yeliu and Keelung
Taiwan's northern coast with its magic nature

A while ago my girlfriend took me on a short trip to Taiwan's northern coast. And since it's really so beautiful there, I'm going to share with you some of my photos and tell you all about the amazing places we saw that day. We went to Yeliu 野柳 (also Yehliu or Yehliou), a Geopark with amazing natural formations and to Keelung (基隆, prounced similar to Chilong), Taiwan's biggest northern port, a bustling city of around 400.000 people, famous for its sea food, night market and rainy days.
It took us about 1h from Taipei to reach Keelung. The weather was hot and humid, but a bit cloudy. Actually I just wanted to see Keelung city, I had no idea about Yeliu, but my girlfriend was once there and wanted me to see it. If you want to read everything about what happened that day, check my photos and click on the links below, they will bring you to my posts.

✰ Check my post about Keelung here>>

And then I saw it: The famous Queen's Head (女王頭), the symbol of the whole region.

After the long afternoon, we went to one of Taiwan's best and most famous night markets, to the Miaokou Night Market in Keelung. We really had a great time there as well.

What do you think about our trip to Keelung and Yeliu?

I love the pictures! I really love to travel. Unfortunately, I haven't been to this place. It's awesome. And I laughed when you compared the Queen's Head to Marge Simpson. Very accurate. ;D

Wow your photos are amazing! Those rocks are spectacular, it really does look like moon craters huh...
Love the "Keelung" sign too- very HOLLYWOOD :)

It's so beautiful there by the seaside!
Those formations look really cool. I've seen something called Hoodoos out here in Calgary/Canmore Alberta where I am this weekend and it's a tad bit similar to the rock formations in Yeliou....But the Queen's Head is quite the sight! :)
The mossy/mold (?) water in the craters look a bit gross...knowing how inbalanced I am I would probably fall stepping into one of those craters :\ Especially if I was attempting to take pictures for my blog LOL. But very cool nonetheless!
And I have to agree with Sarah - the Keelung sign does look familiar LOL

This is so weird.
Yesterday I wrote this article about Hoping Island, where I went this Saturday, to see another very similar geopark. (Also very close to Keelung, so I went there too.)
First HuaJiang now this. It seems we're going to the same places and writing about the same stuff a lot. O.O
We live close to Xinpu too, and I haven't even bumped into you yet. xD

@Gnetch: Thanks :)
@Sarah: Indeed. Maybe it's Keeliwood :)
@Karen: Like always, a great review and commentary. I love your comments. And usually I have nothing much to add :) You say it best.
@Ejann: What happened to you? Hahaha...
@Kasia: True.
@Lily: Hehe...
@Roxy: No, that's not Lily. It's another girl, but Lily was the one who told me: Snap picture of her :)~ And so I did.
@Daisy: I have a good camera and the scenery is beautiful, that's all. :-)
@Sander: Yes, there's many similarities. But we don't really plan to write posts about same or similar topics, it's pure coincidence.
Hey, Xinpu is big and crowded, hehe. Not so easy to bump into each other. Well, anyway, I moved out of Xinpu a week ago, so I guess we won't bump into each other there. Maybe somewhere else some other time xD
@Netster: Come and take many pics :D Taiwan is waiting for you.

omg!! that place looks absolutely spectacular. i live vicariously through your pics. :-)
of the many cities you've already visited in Asia, which are on your "top" list of must-see places? i'm trying to make my own list and i've just got so many places, i don't know where to start. figured i'd ask someone who's been there and done that. ~.^

Those rocks and craters are amazing! That Queen's Head does look like Marge's 'updo'. LOL

@Kay: Well, I'd advise you to go to Singapore as your first Asian destination. Singapore is "Asia Light", the culture shock won't be as big and you can eat some yummy and spicy food there. Then you can go to Kuala Lumpur with the bus, it's cheap and fun. You can stay 2-3 days there, try yummy Malaysian food, see the famous Petronas Twin Towers. Then you can go to Genting highlands entertainment city, it's near KL. Spend 1 night there or a day. Then I'd say go to Penang, the pearl of the orient. 5h by bus from KL and stay few days there. Best Malaysian food is in Penang. You can go to the beach, explore the colonial city center. I lived in Penang for 3 months. It's awesome.
That could be your 1st trip, covering 1000km between Singapore and Penang.
Another trip can be Hong Kong and Macau, you'd need 5 days for each city to really see most things and experience it as much as possible. I love those two places for so many reasons.
The third one I recommend is of course Taipei. Not only the city is awesome with great food, you also have many cool small towns very close to Taipei, you can make short day trips to Danshui, Wulai, Jiufen, Keelung and Yeliu. You'd need like 10 days to see everything I mentioned.
Then another awesome and so far for me most impressive city was Seoul. Boy, I'd need 2-3 weeks to truly see everything with a slow pace. It's really a truly amazing place. I love it and I want to return one day. Korea is very beautiful.
Hope that helps for now :-)
Johana: Definitely :)

Thank you sooo much for the recommendations. :) I cut and pasted into my travel spreadsheet. LOL!
You know, I considered going to SG first because I have friends who live there. They want me to stay with them and then they suggested KL next.
I want to spend at least 3wks in Seoul. I've been told that's the minimum one should stay to really get to see everything. I'm getting so excited and I'm only in the planning phase!!! (^.^)
