A year in review: My blog year 2009
Watch out, I'm rambling, it's long ;)
1 My beginnings
I think, since 2009 is nearly over, many bloggers will write their year in review. And so will I here. Well, where to start. I've tried blogging in October 2006, but lost interest after a month and deleted the blog. Then came March 2008 and I decided to start blogging again. I don't know, whether that was a blessing or a curse to you, my followers, but I must say I do enjoy blogging ever since and you, the readers are a big part of that. In 2008, my blog was more of a diary and I didn't update a lot and also didn't have any readers. But it was still fun to add my 2 cents on various issues. Then came this year: I returned from Malaysia in February and started to blog more passionately, updating a lot and commenting on other blogs. At that time my blog's name was Nino's World. I was heart-broken and blogging was a kind of remedy for me, even if only temporarily, it did help me make it through the hard times. I got few followers and blogging seemed pretty much fun. Until there was an 'incident', where I was dragged in and suddenly haters were directed to my blog, bashing me in the comments. I did not seek trouble, but trouble found me. I guess this sums it up the best.
2 A new bloggining
It stressed me out so much, that I deleted my old blog and started a new one naming it My Kafkaesque life. I imported all the old posts, but the URL was new, the design was new and at least in the beginning, I was more anonymous, but I'm less so today. I left all the drama behind and I found back to my old self. Because I used to be bitter at times, I was negative and moody. Blogging wasn't really fun in July. But it all changed end of August. I stopped following people, who didn't do me any good and I found new ones, who made me feel like I was reborn - and of course the biggest part of this happiness belongs to my sweetie. So I can say I'm happy since end of August and I'm trying to take things as easy as I can now.
3 About following
Those who I follow, probably know, that I'm a very supportive and loyal follower, but I also stopped following people, who didn't give back enough in return or who tended to be too negative sometimes. It doesn't mean I don't like them or that I completely stopped reading their blogs. It's very rare, that I delete a blog from my Google reader. I love reading blogs. But now that I have so much more followers, I do take care of them first. My time is limited, I can only give back so much. And I think everyone does that: The blogosphere is huge, new people come and go, but some stick around. And those who do, you need to cherish them, because they make blogging so much more fun. I really treasure you girls and guys, a big fat thank you!
4 About followers
But there's also people who followed me for a while and then stopped. I thank you, too. I have no idea, why some stopped following me, but I guess the reasons are similar to the ones I have, when I stop following other bloggers: They bore me, I don't agree with what they write or how they comment. That's all legitimate and ok. That's a solid part of blogging and I'm not mad at anyone, who stopped following me. I don't try to be interesting to everyone and I don't take blogging as a popularity contest and I know some won't like me or just misunderstand me. That's just very common here. But I do have to say, that some who stopped following me, did surprise me and I was disappointed for a while. But new ones started following and I got used to that constant changing. Then again, blogging is not everything in my life. Lately I don't write so much about my private life [I merely hint], although a lot of interesting things are happening. On the other hand, my blog's motto is scribbling about everything and judging by the poll [previous post], most of you like my blog this way. So I always have something to blog about and I don't need to write a diary :-)
5 Fun facts about 2009
1 Infamous Chinabounder commented on my blog: See here.
2 Singaporean celebrity blogger Dawn Yang commented: See here.
3 My most popular post was 7 Things about me you didn't know: See here.
4 Most interesting comments were on Asian Women/Western men: See here.
5 Most hits from Google got my post about Elly Tran Ha: See here.
6 Most controversial post: About Dawn Yang [I deleted hate comments]: See here.
7 My personal favorite post is How should a man be in 2009: See here.
8 Old posts I'd recommend to read again [click on the links]:
- Brad Pitt lecturer in Seoul and Tokyo [this was supposed to be funny, I made it up!]
- No urinating in common areas in Hong Kong [interesting stuff from my trip]
- Get a brain, morans [Banners, where the English is misspelled, mostly by Americans]
- Chinese girl at the temple [A sexy girl I saw near a temple in Malaysia]
- Did Susan Boyle freak out? [I annoyed my friends on twitter with this #fail]
6 In conclusion
It was an interesting blog year, with many ups and downs. I was misunderstood and complimented many times, people followed and stopped following. I wrote brilliant stuff and I wrote rubbish, I wrote great comments and I wrote comments I am ashamed of now. I was involved in controversies and nontroversies and I apologized more than once [and I would still do so, if I know that I did something wrong]. Well, that's life and that's how blogging is ;-) Let us not forget, that all of us are human and we can make a mistake or two now and then, it just shouldn't become the norm. However it was: It was exciting! :-) And I hope that 2010 will be an equally exciting blog year for all of us. There are a lot of changes coming up in my life - in few months I will be blogging from Asia. Hope you guys will like it :-)
And now I'm tagging everyone to do the same post like I did: Sum up your blog year like I did here and you can be sure I will be eager to read about your experiences and also I hope you highlight your popular posts and old posts worthy to read again.
Thanks and good luck! :-)

December 11, 2009 4:52 AM
@adamantixx: Thank you. I also hope that 2010 will be a great blog year, shall see :)
@Manju: Chinabounder blogged in China few years ago and wrote how he has slept with many Chinese girls and people got so upset in China, they tried to kick him out of the country, was in the news a lot. I wrote about Dawn, you can check the most popular posts.
If you write your blog year review, I'd read it, hehe. I wonder how did you become so popular in such a short time: What's your secret? :P [I mean besides being cute and sweet and kind and lovely and awesome :P]
December 11, 2009 5:04 AM
hahah yeah, people come and go. but there are a few that stays with you through thick and thin. i do believe that we can develop true friendships despite the fact that we never meet each other (or just yet) :P
paulo maldiniiiiiiiiiiiiiiii *am watching sexiest men of sports* oh paulo maldiniiiiiiiiiiiiii! do meeeeeeee

December 11, 2009 5:26 AM
@Ejean: Bahahaha... I hope you can live with this comment for the rest of your life :P Once I get famous and have million daily hits, horny Italian men will read this and go after you and your blog :PP
Yea, I think true friendships can be made, but needs to take some time to see, if it's really true friendship. Some say they're your best friend, but then they suddenly vanish.
December 11, 2009 5:33 AM
seriously? ha i wonder if he caught some disease sleeping around like that? ppl who screw and brag are jerkfaces.
true friends = ppl who feed you chocolate... mine are anyway ;) hehe
December 11, 2009 5:57 AM
@Manju: I read his blog and for me all the stories sound so made up, I read it like a novel. There's no proof that he really did that or that, some say it was 3 people trying to stir up a controversy. You can read a juicy story from that blog here. Then tell me what you think :)
Wow, so I qualify to be your true friend? Wow. So you admit: You ate the chocolate I sent you :P Cool! Yummy?
December 11, 2009 6:07 AM
I just got reminded of how many posts on MKL I read this year. Must have been hundreds. And each one was worth reading. Keep up the good work.
My 2009 review and 2010 preview still have to wait. It's to early now ;)
December 11, 2009 6:13 AM
@Junjie: Oh yes, you were one of my early followers, then you were gone when all the changes happened and now you're back :) Thanks for the compliments and I hope you write a review soon. I think I've read a lot of stuff on your blog, too. So it's mutual :)
December 11, 2009 6:18 AM

it's been great knowing u Nino, u're indeed a friend for keeps =) looking forward to your future posts from asia!
December 11, 2009 9:41 AM
Ok, Ok...did you really have to add to my to-do list? :P
You know, I was getting some hateful msgs as well this year. I completely don't understand the reasonin behind harassing perfect strangers on the WWW. This is partly why I changed blogs, but I've got a big mouth & let the cat outta the bag. Ooops!
Hey, by the way, glad you stuck it out & we got a chance to cross paths :D
December 11, 2009 9:59 AM
Hmm, all I say about blogging is, after a while you need to learn how to become less sensitive. I get sensitive a lot and it burns me and now I'm in the phase when i'll only give a shit to people who care.
Keep your writings. we love them!
December 11, 2009 12:58 PM
Sexy girl in front of temple. I just had to click the link to see the photo. No frontal shots? Yummy yum yum.
2010 will be another meaningful year for ya, with the relocation to the new Asia city. I'm expecting more pics of scantily... err I mean nice photos of Taiwan.
Thanks for tagging, but I will have to give it a pass because I can't think of much to write about this topic.
I'll join in for your next tag. ^_^
Rock on, Nino! I'm still waiting for Dawn Yang to visit my blog. It's gonna be a long wait. Haha.
December 11, 2009 3:46 PM
i read it! so he's saying that chinese men are dull and sexless ha, it's no wonder ppl tried to kick him out of china hahaha
oh well, most of the time it's the ppl who have issues who criticize others, so that tells you something about him, doesn't it? lollll
not yet not yet...*resisting*
it's for christmas day...IF i manage to wait that long >_<
December 11, 2009 4:04 PM

December 11, 2009 5:32 PM
@Sharon: Thanks and I'd love to see you do it. You also updated a lot and you know I like your old posts, too :) I feel the same regarding you: You're really a dear friend ;)
@Steph: I know you can do it ;) You love blogging, hehe. Glad to meet you, too. :D
@Andhari: Yes, we need to have thick skin, but we're also human and sometimes we are sensitive. I also have few of these days. But for me, people like you and all the others here always pull me up and make me happy. So really thank you. And I hope to get the old cheerful Andhari back. It seems you've really changed a bit and I must say I worried these days. But then again, I can only do so much. If you need a friend to talk to, you can always contact me. Thanks for being my friend and follower, I really appreciate **hug**
December 11, 2009 7:21 PM
@Shingo T: No frontal shots, Shingo, besides, I don't like to expose random people on my blog, I posted it, cuz the face is not visible. But I do love to post models, hehe.
Ok, don't do the tagging, bro :( You just stabbed me.. ouch :P KIDDING!
As for 2010, all I can say it will be long year. I hope things go well and my plans succeed. If I have to go back after few weeks or months, I'll surely be sad :( Let's hope for the best.
Thanks for your well wishes.
@Manju: Yes he provoked and succeeded :P Ok, Christmas is near, I know you can do it :)
@VENILLA: Thanks, but I'm gonna pass on this, I only exchange links with those who I know a bit more. If you check my blog roll, most of them became my friends. Needs a bit more effort :) Cheers!
December 11, 2009 7:27 PM
By the way... i had nothing much to write abt this year too... LOL. But for the previous year i did encountered some nasty spammers and guess wat, they r some lifeless bitches from my office. Duhz. I wonder y they keep reading my blog since they hate me so much. Weird eh these ppl? Haha.
Alright take care!
December 11, 2009 7:49 PM
@Adeline: The haters are mostly from our own environment and I guess the main reason was just envy: You're gorgeous and you have a lovely husband, a happy life. They're just envious. Now they can't spam anymore, since you're comments are closed ;) And you caught them :)
December 11, 2009 8:04 PM
OMG I didnt realise you were such a famous blogger with all those famous people commenting on your posts :P OMG! :D lol
I think i'll try to do this one.. even though my blog is quite new, so I probably dont have much to say about it :p hihi
December 11, 2009 8:40 PM
@JaiMie: Lol. I'm not famous, haha.. Just happen to attract these comments, don't know why. Now and then I write something interesting, that's all :-) Looking forward to read your summary ;)
December 11, 2009 8:50 PM
so went through a haters phase too eh?... should never give in to them mate...
yeah, following and followers can make blogging a tiring experience if you dont have enough time. i guess we just have to exercise discernment!
December 12, 2009 10:53 AM
@zewt: Yes, went thru some of that nonsense. If it happens 2nd time, I will have a thicker skin. I usually don't seek trouble, but trouble finds you online very easily. Still, got to know so many awesome people thru blogging, that few silly haters are really insignificant.
December 12, 2009 7:50 PM
Hmm...I think I might steal that one from you. You blog so regularly and it's really interesting. Where you find inspiration?
December 12, 2009 9:34 PM
@Kit: You're welcome to do that, I will be reading it, just let me know you wrote it, drop a msg in my Cbox :) Ah, I just write about what's on my mind, what's on TV or online. Also my friends supply me with weird and funny stuff :) Always something to blog about. Thanks for your compliments :)
December 12, 2009 10:04 PM
I think I will do this when my blog is 1 year old... I'm now a bit over 6 months... not too much have happened during these months, so I can't really write my review. I like yours though, I don't get how you get the haters anyway, because you write a great blog. Most guy blogs are about finance, or politics.. too serious for me. I like yours because it's about all kind of things.

that venilla person.... :S
booh...
December 13, 2009 1:01 AM
@Shirley: Ah, I may explain that to you some day, hehe.. it was a long story how I got haters. Anyway, it's the past. Thanks for being my new awesome follower :)
And yes, we caught another spammer :)
December 13, 2009 1:14 AM
Wow a round up for 2009? hahahaha I never did that for my blog. Maybe I should :)
looks like your 2009 are really interesting :)
I have shamelessly un-follow quite a few people on twitter this month. mostly I think they are a bit too negative and I can't read too many negative msg on a daily basis.
2009 has been a nightmare in my real life! most part are negative, so I blog less. I am not writing emo/negative stuffs online to make it worse. (But shhhhh.... actually I do not know how to begin to wrote an emo post hahahah)
Great round up! good luck to your 2010 :)
December 13, 2009 11:18 AM
@netster: I wouldn't expect you having such a tough year. Wow. You're always so positive and for that I admire you. Good luck to you, too :)
December 13, 2009 6:41 PM
Hey Bro, you're tagging everyone but I don't think I got much to write about. Hahaha. Maybe hold it until my 20th big day next year. Aha.
Anyway, you're doing a great job. Your blog is very famous now and not to forget, my paparazzi did some good jobs too. Hahaha! Just kidding.
Yes, I wish the 2010 will full of happiness. :)
December 14, 2009 3:51 PM
@Stefanie: Hehe, you're so sweet. My blog's not famous, ok? Just have few followers, but I really cherish all of you :-) Hold back your paparazzi, ok? :P
Hope 2010 will be great for both of us :-D
December 14, 2009 6:05 PM
Well I acquiesce in but I contemplate the collection should acquire more info then it has.
December 27, 2009 10:05 AM
@Anonymous: I saw you commenting the same crap on my friend's blog. If this is a joke, it's just not funny. But since you didn't spam, I'll let you be. If you want more info, read my whole blog from Jan to Dec!!! :P
December 27, 2009 7:35 PM
