7 things about me you didn't know

We have first snow today! Bummer :( [Manju, do you wanna change?]

The incredibly talented Mauritian blogger Manju dared me to write 7 things about me you didn't know before. Manju says that according to the rules of this award I'm supposed to tell you 7 things you might not know about me, and then tag 7 other creative bloggers to do the same. So here are 7 random things about me you didn't know before:

1 When I was 3 years old, I already knew how to spell, read and calculate to 10. I was considered a prodigy in that regard. Mum told me that her colleagues, who came to visit us, couldn't believe their eyes, when they saw me reading from the newspaper fluently. Keep in mind that the language was Slovenian, which uses 1 letter for 1 sound. Nevertheless, it was still exceptional. [I do wonder now where my genius went after that... -_-]

2 Although I speak German fluently and I have a Bachelor's degree in German language and literature, up until today I have never been in Germany. [Ok, before you start tearing out your hair like a crazy professor, let me tell you that I live 1km away from the border with Austria, which is also a German speaking country. I'm sure I've been in Austria more than hundred times.]

3 Last year I would stay up very late just to listen to an Obama speech, which was broadcast live during prime time in America, but due to the difference in time, it was aired at 3 or 4am in Europe. Yes, I could! And yes, that's how much I believe[d] in that man.

4 I never dated someone from my hometown.

5 I collect chopsticks.

6 I'm allergic to pollen, so every spring [usually from February to June] is my worst time of the year. I sneeze every day, my nose and eyes are red, it feels like a constant flu. That's one of the reasons I felt so good in the tropical Malaysia and Singapore, because I'm only allergic to the blossoms in our climate with 4 seasons. And it would be one of the reasons for me to consider emigrating and settling in a warmer [allergy-free] place [most likely in Asia].

7 I hate reading books. I would read a book only, if it was really really necessary. I do read a lot of stuff though, but online.

Now, don't worry, I won't tag anyone, but you can do the same list, if you want. And sorry, I didn't reveal anything scandalous here. Hope you know a bit more about me now :)

Harini Because I like them :) And when I traveled around Asia, I bought all kinds of them, of course not the normal ones, but those made of special wood or decorated nicely.

Lmao, i thought men only stayed up till 3-4am either to play war of warcraft or to watch porn haha

Handy little tip: try putting vaseline around your nostrils in spring, the pollen will get stuck and you won't breathe it in.

P.S. I love metal korean chopsticks.

Girl in stiletto

Well, when I was a teen, I was too shy, I started dating when I was studying at the university and that was not in my hometown :P And later love led me to Asia, but that's a whole nother story ;)

hey cake-man! :P just kidding...

never dated anyone from my hometown as well, it's a boring place anyway :P haha

I'm allergic to pollen too, it's really annoying, esp. this year was bad! love to be abroad, where I don't have that much trouble with that!
I've never been to austria or slovenia.. hmm... it's not even far from the netherlands! been to germany a few times though I don't speak any german. No wait, I do, a little tiny bit, I've forgotten so much from high school! I think I'd understand a lot of it, reading and all, but really speaking would be a nono!

It's a small world, huh? We have some things in common, but I do wish there was a cure for our annoying allergy >.< Yea, this year was really bad.. and I been thru a break up this spring, so it was quite a tough time all together for me... -_-
I thought you Dutch all speak a little German, but I see that most are more fluent in English. You know, I almost learned Dutch during my time at the uni. We had to choose between Swedish or Dutch, I chose Swedish... which turned out to be so hard and complicated. I had it 2 years and now I don't know how to speak at all...

Hi, landed here via ShingoT's blog.

#5 - that's a strange hobby collecting chopsticks. Were there many intriguing chopsticks to collect in your hometown? Or you're collecting it in Msia?

#6 - I sneezed everyday, 365/24/7 when I lived in Malaysia. I grew up in Msia. When I left to live in the southern hemisphere, I stopped sneezing all together! That's so different to what you've experienced.

You still have genius on language ah, I mean it, as least you understand what I'm talking about. And it's funny that you haven't been to Germany before but speak German fluently. I just can say: "So cool!"

I guess now your readers know you collect chopsticks, so maybe they would send you chopsticks as your birthday or Christmas gifts, and then you will have a chopstick mountain. hehe.

LilyChen

Haha.. yea, I understand you :P Oh no, that wasn't my intention. Nobody should send me chopsticks, hehe :P

You have a Bachelor's Degree in German language? That is amazing. You should have added on to that Asian language or Asian Literature. Do you know how to use chopsticks? My mom is full chinese, and I'm half but yet, I don't know how to use them. And you should move to Asia, the weather here would be perfect for you. =)

Thank you. But by the time I started to study, I wasn't into Asian languages at all :) I know how to use chopsticks, yes. Well, I might move to Asia indeed, shall see how it goes :)
