Obama won the Nobel peace prize!
This was just wow! Barack Obama won the Nobel peace prize 2009! I happened to watch it live on TV, when they announced it and I pride myself as being the first who broke the news on Twitter (I'm so FOM, I know, hehe). Anyway, the initial reactions on Twitter were funny, like: "What did he do???" Duh! Imagine Sarah Palin near the Oval office? Ok, joking aside, let's see some tweets:
- PepeEdwardson WTH! US President Obama received Nobel Peace Prize???? No year in oval office and....? Whtas Wrong Sweden!?
- Syler_mi4 #Obama is first US President to win a nobel prize while still in office. not to mention that he hasnt completed a year in office.
- Karmapriya U.S. President Obama has won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize for extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy.
- karr1 Why O Why did we give #Obama a #Nobel price? He hasn't done anything special yet, has he?
- kimbabim Obama just won the Nobel peace prize? Wow. Crazy. Didn't expect that at all. Isn't that a little early? #obama #nobelprize
- mainewolfie CNN Breaking news - President Obama has won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize. FOR DOING WHAT??
My point of view: First of all, who cares why? Seriously. It's not Obama's "fault" to get this award. If you have complaints, send them via Oslo. If I was American, I would be proud. I mean, it won't hurt your country, will it? It can only make your image abroad better. You were pretty much hated by all over the world during Bush's 2 terms. Plus this award may be like a reminder for Obama to keep his promises and end wars and don't start new wars and to engage in peace efforts in Israel, Darfur and elsewhere in the world. It's a good signal. But I can imagine the rightwingers freaking out and finding new ways to mock Obama.
Anyway, congratulations mr. President and congratulations USA.

Good post!
my first thoughts were kinda surprise, but then i thought, it's never too early to acknowledge the beginnings of something big!

Sure,
Any award that helps instigate a peace process can only be a good thing.
BUT - it's a little too soon don't you think?
There is still a helluva lot of really bad gear going on, and even though I am a general fan of the Obama era, he has still made some decisions that one would consider contrary to placing himself as front runner for a Nobel.
Just through on twitter:-
@lightyoruicgi I smell rat. #obama Nobel nomination deadline was February 1st., 11 days into Obama's presidential period. <--interesting
Gonna be some interesting days in the blogger/twitter-spheres
:-)

@desh: LOL at Vawe invite, hehe. Well, early or not, in the end, what is it? A peace of paper and 1.4million $, which he would probably donate. So, at least someone will benefit from it.
@Abudhabilist: Yea, it's unexpected, but it can't harm nobody, right? He'll need some time to fix the mess of the previous administration, but maybe this will give him a boost he needs :)

@mkl

blogmarking u, seems to be a good space :)

i also think that it's far too early to hand him such a pretigious award but that's not his fault, i guess.
i heard someone comment that it's more accurate to describe his achievement as "winning the award for not being George Bush"

@Ax: Well, it was surprising, yes.. But then again I think it's lame when people vent against Obama. It's not his fault. Even weirder is that Americans themselves, especially right-wingers, who are always so overly proud, behave so nasty. They were the 'Great Satan' for 8 years and now their president recieves such a big honor, they should be proud now. USA is admired and respected again. How can you take this negatively and twist it in a way to mock Obama. It's a crazy country sometimes -_-

woohoo! now lets earn it!
October 11, 2009 1:39 AM
@floreta: Hehe, good one :P
October 11, 2009 2:12 AM
The award is preliminary, but then again, I'm not sure if there's anyone else who is as prominent enough to make the dfference when it comes to peace.
October 12, 2009 1:47 PM
@Shingo T: Yea, well, at least they got attention.. but you see, few days after and it's so yesterday's news. Nobel prize has lost its glory.
October 12, 2009 5:47 PM
Wish he really fulfill his promises about peace in middle east. I ador ehim, bro. He got a lot in his hands right now and all the eyes in the world are on him. It will be tough.
Well, there's nothing much I can say rather than "Congratulations, my full support for world peace, Mr. Obama!"
October 12, 2009 11:10 PM
@Selvy: Yes sis, he's great, also cuz both of you grew up in Indonesia :P Hope he does well, wish him best of luck :)
October 12, 2009 11:19 PM
he's one of the people with the most 'power' for world peace right now so it's good encouragement i think.
p.s. i already have a Toyota actually . got a car but no license sheeshh how sad it that!..it's my dad's, but he has 2, so he's not going to buy me another one
p.p.s i totally LOLed at you being so proud of breaking the news on twitter, so funny!
have a great week ^^

OKay, first when I heard about this news when I on my way to logged on to my yahoo account. It suprised me, okay, I admit that Obama is a great person, great president, but, winning Nobel Peace Prize ? Huhh,,come on, the party of this event should not giving joke like this. Yes, Obama is great, but he even can't be compared to what Mother Theresa, Koffi Annan or Mahatma Gandhi have done. He should do more to accept the prize, so for me, he still not deserve to got the prize. (hehe,,easy, its only my opinion)
October 14, 2009 3:55 AM
@nando.gino: First of all, I respect people who have an opinion and can support it with a reasonable explanation :P So don't worry, hehe.
All I'm saying is that it's not his fault, right? So it's nothing he could do. But you know USA and Russia did sign a treaty to reduce nukes, which I think is a good sign. So I take this prize more symbolic and not on the merits. His causes are good for the world and that's what counts. Winning a prize or not won't matter in the actual world.
