Out of luck this year! Why?

Today I was remembering this year's Chinese new year celebrations. I was thinking how many things I did to have a happy lucky year:

- I wore a red shirt.
- I attended the reunion dinner
- I visited grandma the second day
- I visited friends, always brought 2 oranges
- I said 农历新年 to tons of people
- I recieved a lot of angpau (red packages)
- I went to many temples
- I threw noodles in the air, ate the fortune fish
- I bought many suvenirs like on the pic, it's the Chinese sign fú 福 and it means 'good fortune'

Ok, to be honest, these are the things I didn't do:

- I didn't touch a fortune fish at a temple
- I didn't stroke a Buddha's belly at a temple
- I didn't pray at the temple

But nevertheless, did I deserve the misfortune I have now and all the bad things that happened this year to me? I really don't know, if all these things one does for good luck really work. This is a list of the bad things that happened to me this year so far:

- My grandpa died before my return from Malaysia
- My 11 years old cat died before my return from Malaysia
- A 40 years old willow infront of our house fell due to heavy snow
- My uncle caused a lot of stress after grandpa's death, inheritance issues
- My ex broke up, even though 2 months ago we seemed to be happy
- Severe hayfever disabled me for 3 months, on top I got heavy flu
- Unexpected heavy hail put a lot of dents on my car's bonnet
- Car's battery ran out, needed few days to fix
- Crazy weather, whole May and June was raining
- Our newborn kitten was killed by a vicious unknown tom-cat
- A lightning nearly missed our house, but it destroyed our phone line,
no internet 8 days

That's why I am very curious: Am I cursed? Did I ran out of luck? I was never a fan of celebrations, but for the first time, I was so happy to be part of one. It was Chinese new year. I know I will be in the mood of celabrating it next year, even I probably won't be around Chinese people. I have fond memories of this year's celabrations. And even if it's not a happy year for me, I will try to keep the good memories up and not dwell on the bad. I think now I have another 6 months until the next Chinese new year. Who knows, maybe my luck will improve. Maybe good things will start happening to me. I hope so. And I wish you, dear reader, the same!

That certainly is a pretty big list you have there of "bad" luck. I hope things turn around for you.

I can't say my year has been the best so far, but it has been fairly exciting, and I have nothing too terrible to complain about.

Is my life glamorous right now? No, but it's got its high points. Will the rest of my year be easy? I doubt it.

I've had good years and bad...

Anyway, like I said... hope things turn around for you and the rest of your year is a lot more fun.

@TalesOC, Thanks. I hope so, too.

Well, as far as I know, you had a pretty interesting year, especially 1 month ago ;-)

@Nashe^, I feel you, buddy.

But what happened to you? Is your list worse than mine?

@Jerine, damn, how could I forget red underwear! Now I know why I'm so out of luck ;-)
Well, it all started with my grandpa's death. From then on everything went downhill.. It looks like my 'recession' is stopping slowly..

@Eileen, thanks for your warm wishes ;-)

Red underwear? I certainly hope you'd post a picture of that.
Of course it might not change your luck, but it'd be lucky for me! *wink wink*

You're only halfway through the year sweetie. Maybe you were just getting all of the bad stuff over with in the beginning of the year? The rest of it should be great.

I've always had terrible luck in even numbered years. Good luck in odd numbered years. This is 2009--an odd number. I still have hope that something really cool is going to happen this year. Something incredible! For both of us. I just have a feeling.

I should add that I'm sorry to hear about losing your grandfather. I lost my grandmother as well this year. Today is her birthday as a matter of fact. Strange that you should mention him while I've been thinking about her.

Maybe we do have some inner connection that traverses miles and oceans?

@Tricia, haha... I didn't wear red underwear and I have no photos of it, nor do I have the wish to post myself in underwear here, haha. I like that *wink wink, hehe.

As for the rest, I do hope it will be a great year, yea. I think what worse can happen? People died, lightning and hail struck already, my ex broke up. She can't break up again, right? :)

Ok, I keep my fingers crossed. I believe in your female intuition *wink wink

@Tricia again, hey who knows. There might be a connection, right? I came to your blog 'by accident' and there's some things we have in common. I'm sorry about your grandma, too. But what can we do, huh? Just hope they're in a good place.

Sorry to hear about all the bad luck that befell you, MKL. If it's any consolation, I didn't do anything during the regular New Year or Chinese New Year to ensure (somehow) that I get some good luck. And I got really bad luck this year, too, like you can't imagine. You could have had worse luck, you know, and what prevented that from happening was all the noodles you threw in the air.

@Demigoddess, this was meant more ironic than serious. I am not superstitious like Chinese, but it was fun to do these things. More like a cultural thing for me. I planned to put up a list of my mysery this year for a while now. But then always something new happened (like that lightning in July). But now I feel like things are on the up. So let's keep our fingers crossed for both of us :)

I don't know about a worse list, but 2009 DEFINITELY sucks when compared to 2008. 2008 was amazingly good for me.

@Nashe^, I checked your cookie jar and yea, it was a pretty good year for you. But who knows, this year is not yet over. Let's wait for your next list and see how it looks comparing to 2008. Good luck!

@MKL: I don't know if I need any more excitement like that. I'd really like it better if things smoothed out and things started to go right again. I wonder why 2009 is being such a bad year for everyone?
