Madonna showed us the finger!

Madonna decided to cancel her concert in Slovenia

Madonna fresh and spicy

Madonna was supposed to have a concert in Ljubljana, Slovenia, on the 20th August. Guess what? She could not sell out the place! Out of 15.000 tickets, only 7000 were sold to date. So she announced yesterday, that the gig was canceled due to "unexpected logistical problems." Hahaha. What a lame excuse. They even made jokes on German TV about her, that she's too old to attract Slovenians to come on her concert. There's some truth in it. And I have to add something to our defence: When our best band Siddharta plays an open air concert, it's always sold out. Few years ago, they had 30.000 people on a gig, a record number so far for Slovenia (we're a small country of only 2 million people). We're just very picky when it comes to music. And we don't fall for those old stars now coming to our country, but when they were younger and at their peak of popularity, they didn't care about us. There are many jokes about this cancellation circulating here and most of the people are happy that she won't perform. We're weird. I guess some other nations would go nuts, if she had a concert there.

What do you think? Would you go on a Madonna concert now?

Weird. This post isn't showing up in my Google Reader.

It's not uncommon for bands to try to do shows and then not sell enough seats for it to be profitable enough to go through with. It happens in the US sometimes too.

I can understand how you feel about Madonna, or other stars, ignoring smaller countries until they're much older, and then trying to capitalize on them. It would seem a bit insulting.

Some of Madonna's music is still pretty good. For a 50+ year old woman, she's done a surprisingly good job staying relevant throughout the years, changing her music style to what was popular at the time and doing it well.

Would I go to one of her concerts? Maybe. I suppose it depends on the price. I might consider paying like 60 bucks to see Madonna in concert, but only if that put me on the ground floor close enough to the stage to see what was going on without binoculars. More than that and I'd pass. Then again I'm not a big concert person anyway. I've seen The Rolling Stones in concert, but that's about it. Now, Linkin Park on the other hand would be a great show!

@TalesOC, Well for a small country like ours this is a big thing. You know how people are in small countries :)

The ticket is 90€-110€ (127US$-156US$), that's not really cheap, even if it's her. And yea, people here are suspicious of old popstarts trying to cash in. Few years ago Micheal Jackson supposed to come here, too, but there was not enough interest.

I personally wouldn't go on her concert. I like some old songs, but the last 10 years she didn't really release anything nice in my opinion. And I really wouldn't want to see her dance sexy. I'm all for women over 50 to be sexy and stuff.. But with her, just doesn't appeal to me.

That is a bit steep for Madonna.

I'm kinda surprised about the Michael Jackson thing. I bet people there are regretting that now.

@TalesOC, it is a bit steep, yea. And her fame is really on decline here. People don't faint here, where they see her. But I'm sure Lady Ga Ga will sell out the place. She's scheduled for September, the tickets will be around 30€-50€. Hey, do you want me to check her gender? :P

As for MJ, I think he didn't have a big fan base here, and you have to know, he was less interesting alive (the recent years) than dead. It sounds sick, but it was true.

Well, a lot of people's popularity are seriously revitalized after they die. It puts them in the spotlight again.

As for Lady GaGa I don't know what to think about that anymore. That was a weird bulge in her drawers in that video. The supposed quote in the sidebar... well, I can't find that on her official blog so ... who knows.

@TalesOC, Ah, who cares about Lady Ga Ga, she is a woman, but I let her future lovers the pleasure of pulling down her undies and faint (for whatever reason), hehe...

I just think that girl loves to spark controversy, so it's more likely that she made it up and that she straps on something that makes her appear a hermaphrodite. She loves scandals, her public image is totally nuts, but she'll make a lot of money.

Wow. We came a long way from Madonna :)

hey, i went to her concert in US back in October. It wasn't that bad, the only sucky part was that I went alone and I'm too stingy to pay more so i had to sit really far behind in the stadium, freezing my ass off in the cold :P
not to mention we had to wait in the cold for 4 frigging hours before she finally made her appearance and the concert ended in less than 2 hours :S
but i have to give it to her, 50 years old and still got the moves.. she's a legend, definitely

@Sharon, I guess you're a big fan, since you went alone. And it's always with these stars, the waiting is long, the performance is short. Sure, they amaze you.. but she's not my cup of tea. In the eighties and until 1994 she was the bomb, after that her fame and quality declined (my opinion) and many other artist surpassed her. But if someone would give me a free ticket, I'd go :)

i'd rather see Kylie in concert than Madonna anyday, which is completely irrelevant but my opinion nevertheless!
with money being so tight for so many people across the world, an expensive concert is unattractive unless it's someone you really, really want to see.

@adamantixx, I'd rather see Kylie, too :) You are free to voice your opinion. And yeah, people feel cheated in a way with these highly expensive tickets. Maybe she'd sold out, if the price was 40-50€. We'll never know.

I know. I know.
But I'd still like to see her.

Sometimes I'd like to give the world the finger too. I doubt if the world would care, but hey. You can't really blame her. She did do a song called 'Express Yourself'. It looks like she really believe in doing that ;)

@Tricia, go and see her ;-) Soon she'll perform in every small town in America :-P

Well, I don't mind someone giving me the finger. It's just a finger. It won't kill me :-)

And yea, everyone can express him/herself, so, I wish Madonna all the best.

@Sharon, yea, she is a legend, sure. I have nothing against those who have seen her. I personally wouldn't go, but everyone has his/her own taste. As for MJ... it was not meant to be. That would certainly be an unforgettable experience.

@Selvy, yes. Sidhharta. And their music is awsome :)

My sentiments exactly! Boyz II Men had a concert in Cebu City recently. When they were very popular back then, they'd never have a concert here. That was still sold out, though, because the place they had a concert was really small...maybe about 200 seats. Er...

@Demigoddess, yea... When they're on top, they only go to certain countries, where they sell a lot of albums and merch. People in small countries like ours don't forget that.
